Getting ready for our summer feeding program

Updated: Mar 28

The Campbell farm staff recently attended the Summer Hunger Summit at the Yakima Valley College Conference Center. The event brought together seven groups from different parts of the valley to learn about the feeding programs in the area and the best practices for serving their communities.

The day was filled with engaging conversations where the groups shared their experiences. They discussed kitchen management, outside resources, food donations, the real needs in their respective areas, what works, what needs improvement, serving sites, and delivery. By the end of the event, groups were left with a better understanding of what was happening in their communities and a better idea of what they hoped to create throughout their programs.

The Summer feeding program feeds anywhere from 375 to 500 people during the summer months at the Campbell Farm. Those who live on the Yakama reservation, especially our youth, depend on school meals for weekly nourishment. When school is out, most families struggle to feed themselves. TCF helps by serving meals Monday through Thursday for breakfast and lunch. Each meal represents a home meal filled with love and each essential food group. We serve two sites for breakfast and three for lunch, distributing any leftovers to our unhoused relatives in the area.
